Creedon Transport is a family run business operating from Inchigeela in West Cork. The family has a record of trading going back to the 18th century. The family operated the local post office, a merchants mill business, and a bar and hotel. Transport was always carried out carrying goods to a family operated store in Cork city (Inchigeela Dairy’s) and returning with feed stuffs.

This was always done by a team of horses and carts up to the beginning of the century. At that time a train operated from Cork to Macroom and a horse and cart were used to transfer goods from the railway station to Inchigeela. The last horse owned by the family was named “lightning” – its speed was renowned! The name is still carried on our vehicles today.

In the 1940s the family commenced provender milling and this operated successfully until 1990. It supplied feedstuffs to a large consumer base and supplied local co-ops. Trucks were always kept busy collecting and delivering feed during the years. In the 1980s transport activity increased and artic trucks were purchased for nation-wide transport. The Ford Trader, BMC, and Bedford truck’s were replaced with Guys and Dodges and then on to what we currently use Volvos, Scanias, DAF’s and Mercedes tractor units.

Currently we primarily service the cement and construction industries. As product changed from bags to bulk, a fleet of bulk powder tankers were purchased and this specialised activity is our main focus today. The majority of our loyal and committed staff come from the locality. The current directors are Tom, Sheila and John Creedon.
